Incoming USG president Devashish Basnet is no stranger to public service. An immigrant himself, Basnet has experience managing a welcome center at the southern border of the United States, providing migrants with food, a place to sleep and medical services. Closer to home, Basnet advocated for flexible grading policies during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recognition of Eid al-Fitr as a university calendar holiday through his position as USG junior senator. One of Islam’s most important holidays, Eid al-Fitr, will be observed this Thursday. This will be a regularly scheduled day of classes for CUNY schools.
