The Office of Student Activities will host a virtual conversation with comedian Hasan Minhaj on May 28 at 8 p.m. In the Wednesday afternoon announcement on Instagram, USG said Hunter students can expect to receive emails formally inviting them to RSVP for the event.
Minhaj was host of the Netflix show Patriot Act, and he was previously a correspondent on the Daily Show. Patriot Act was a weekly comedy show that did deep dives into issues related to politics, pop culture, international issues and race.
Minhaj was selected out of four possible comedians, according to USG meeting minutes from February. Also being considered were Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson and Daily Show correspondents Ronny Chieng and Roy Wood Jr.
Before he was host of Patriot Act, Minhaj was a Daily Show correspondent alongside Chieng and Wood. On the nightly comedy show hosted by Trevor Noah on Comedy Central, the comedians have often explored politics and race.
According to an artist vendor USG spoke with months ago, booking Minhaj would cost between $60,000 and $75,000.
In previous years, Hunter has hosted end-of-the-year concerts with musicians like Fetty Wap in 2015 and Tory Lanez in 2017. Last year, the plans were in place for rapper ASAP Ferg to perform at Hunter, but the event was canceled because of the pandemic.
